Volvo Cars to Bid Adieu to Keys With Smartphones
Kuala Lumpur: Soon you will be able to witness a new technology where Volvo cars would be opened with smartphones and not car keys. For Volvo, car keys became so mainstream that they are planning to replace it. This Volvo technology would be readily available by 2017. Volvo is one such automaker, which always try to initiate something new with latest technologies. Earlier also, it has introduced Microsoft band app for voice sync and auto pilot technology termed as 'Intellisafe'.
For this feature, Volvo is developing an app that would allow the drivers to not only open their car but also start the engine. This would act as a digital key and would be connected through Bluetooth. This way, you would not have to carry a physical key with you all the time. Moreover, you don't even have to take out your smartphone to open the car. It would work automatically even when the phone is in your pocket and you come closer to the car. Further, the access to your car can be shared with another person as well. So if your car is parked at some random place, then your family member can also open it with their smartphone if they have an access. For this, you would have to pass on the digital key through the Volvo app. This would also be a convenient feature for the car rental companies who can easily pass on the digital keys through Volvo app.
Volvo would be showcasing this keyless car technology for the first time at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona. After that, this Volvo technology would be tested for the first time with a car sharing firm named Sunfleet which is based at Gothenburg airport in Sweden.
