Volvo Car Malaysia sales jump to 36.1 per cent in 2019
KUALA LUMPUR: The Swedish auto brand has revealed that its annual car sales in the country jumped to 36.1 per cent. Volvo Car Malaysia sold 1,883 cars in 2019, whereas it only managed to sell 1,384 cars in 2018. Not just in Malaysia, but the brand outperformed on the global stage, having sold 705,452 vehicles in 2019, up 9.8 per cent. This is also the first time that the Swedish brand has crossed the 700,000-unit mark in 93 years.
The managing director of Volvo Car Malaysia, Mr Nalin Jain said, “Even as the Malaysian premium segment is facing a decline, Volvo beat the odds and accomplished our highest ever year-on-year growth in retail delivery at 36.1% in 2019 compared to the previous year. We are definitely on the right trajectory and we are excited to show our customers what’s in store for the Volvo brand in 2020.”
In Malaysia, the automaker got a fabulous response due to the start of deliveries of the new XC40, new S60 and the facelift version of the XC90. Aside from this, the company managed to increase its market share in the PHEV segment in 2019. Further, Volvo opened five new dealerships in the country in regions including Ipoh, Mutiara Damansara, Ara Damansara, Setia Alam and Johor Bahru.
Volvo also established a new Regional Training Centre in Petaling Jaya that could deliver training up to 7,500 man-days to dealers and staff on technical and non-technical grounds across the Asia Pacific region. The company expect to generate RM 100 million in revenue from the training centre and services like technical Hub, Finance Cluster and Procurement in the next five to seven years.
A new dealership in Kota Kinabalu is also in the pipeline, likely to launch soon. Moreover, the 2020 plans include the launch of two brand new cars, including the S90 facelift and the S60, which will come as a CKD (completely knocked-down) model.
