Volkswagen to unveil its Golf GTI TCR at Reifnitz am Wörthersee on 9th May

KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen is ready to unveil Golf GTI TCR on 9th of May, 2018. This model will be a highlight for visitors and participants at Reifnitz am Wörthersee where this car will be showcased.

The special thing about GTI TCR is that it is a road version of the winner of the prestigious International TCR race: The Golf GTI TCR by the same name. The model retains this name despite being detuned for road use.

The all-new turbo engine of GTI TCR delivers strong 286 bhp between 5000 and 6800 revolutions per minute. This new model balances the highest torque of 370 Nm towards the front axle within 1600 rpm of the speed range. This particular value remains high constantly at a rate of 4300 rpm. The front axle differential lock and the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox will be responsible for superb power transmission. This gearbox along with mechanical locking differential will provide added traction to the model. The speed of this model will be as high as 250 kmph. It can be increased up to 264 kmph if the electronic Vmax limiter is removed, hence making it the fastest road-going Golf GTI model. TCR model will retain the super hit EA888 2.0 turbocharged TSI engine. The superior power, performance and design are completely intrinsic to the sports car doctrine of Volkswagen.

Nevertheless impressive, the GTI TCR is still not the fastest or the most powerful GTI model. The model will hit the European markets by the end of 2018. Being an exotic racing location, this model will also be launched in Sepang in Malaysia. It will also participate as a support racing model to some FIA Formula One Championship events. Closer to home, the Malaysian racer, Mitchell Cheah won the opening round of TCR Asia series, 2018 in Sepang, driving the GTI TCR for Liqui Moly Team Engstler.
