Volkswagen T-Cross is all Primed to Challenge Honda HRV and Mazda CX-3
Kuala Lumpur: The subcompact crossover market is currently the fastest growing segment in the automotive industry and Volkswagen is all geared up to grab its share in this market with the launch of it's all new crossover, Volkswagen T-Cross that sounds like a dinosaur. The all-new T-Cross will straightly go against the likes of Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V and Renault Captur. So far these three have been enjoying the big slice in crossover market, but now it looks that Volkswagen is all primed to spoil their party with T-Cross.
The T-Cross is a crossover vehicle based on the Volkswagen Polo hatch of the company. The T-Cross will be Volkswagen's second crossover vehicle after the T-Roc compact SUV which is based on Volkswagen Golf. Both these crossover vehicles are placed below the Tiguan and Touareg in Volkswagen model line-up in terms of both size and price. The German carmaker is quite optimistic to unleash its T-Cross in the Malaysian market considering the subcompact segment popularity here.
Talking about crossovers, we can say that a few years ago bigger cars were considered as a taboo to buy with their affluent price tags, lower pragmatism and higher running costs. But as soon as the car makers all across the globe laid the genesis of B-segment smaller SUVs, or the mini crossovers or the compact SUV's it became an instant hit in the auto markets.
With increasing sales number of the crossovers, the automotive makers have become more optimistic towards this segment and nearly every carmaker has a mini crossover model to their arsenal. Mercedes-Benz's recently introduced its GLE Coupe and earlier also introduced GLA Crossover in the Malaysian market, Audi released Q3 while Lexus recently introduced NX200T. Thus we can say that the crossover segment is in high octane percussion at the moment in Malaysia and this is the best time for Volkswagen to launch T-Cross.
Volkswagen will be showcasing the concept of T-Cross at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, sources suggests that the car will go in production phase in 2018 and will probably be priced in the range of £18,000 (RM108,470). The T-Cross will share similar design attributes of its sibling T-Roc that debuted at the 2014 Geneva Motor show. Considering Volkswagen' wide range of powertrains, the T-Cross can be manufactured in a TDI (Diesel), TSI (Petrol) or even a Plug-in or Hybrid powertrain.
Exact date of its production and launch cannot be speculated this early, but the T-Cross will surely prove to be a threat to the market share of Honda and Mazda in Malaysia.
