Upcoming Jaecoo J7 PHEV can travel up to 1,427 km without stopping

KUALA LUMPUR: After launching the J7 SUV last year, the premium off-road brand Jaecoo is geared up to launch the J7 PHEV in Malaysia. However, before its much-anticipated arrival in February 2025, the plug-in hybrid SUV is already making waves.

Jaecoo Malaysia recently showcased the SUV’s impressive real-world performance, reaffirming its compatibility with Malaysia's diverse trails and long-distance travel needs.
A total of 5 Jaecoo J7 plug-in hybrid vehicles (2WD) undertook a long-distance journey, starting from Singapore, through Malaysia to Hatyai, Thailand, to test the limits of the PHEV’s range.

All these electrified vehicles proudly surpassed the 1,200 km WLTP certified range on a single tank and charge, with the longest record of 1,427.5 km. Notably, the WLTP range is the maximum distance an EV can cover on a single charge, based on a standardised test.

This rigorous endurance test showcased the unmatched range and efficiency of the upcoming J7 PHEV. It covered 947 km using petrol only and achieved an all-electric range of 108 km, surpassing the standard specification by 18 km. It delivered a total fuel efficiency of 3.5 litres per 100 km (28.5 kmpl), which is far better than the standard 6.6 litres per 100 km (15.15 kmpl). Impressive? Isn’t it?

Powerful Super Hybrid system
Powering the Jaceoo J7 PHEV is a super hybrid system, which includes the fifth-gen 1.5TGDI dedicated hybrid engine, a high-performance dedicated hybrid 18.3kW battery pack, and a continuously variable dedicated hybrid transmission. All these systems work in tandem and deliver the following impressive output numbers -

When it comes to the battery pack, Jaecoo has prioritised safety and reliability. The specialised hybrid battery comes with a thermal management system and is equipped with a robust armour structure, making it impact-resistant. It features an IP68 rating, which means it can reliably perform extreme temperatures and remains fire-resistant even under extreme conditions such as compression or puncture.
Fast and flexible charging options
The upcoming Jaecoo J7 PHEV supports the following three charging modes -
- Home charging: It juices up the 100% battery in 8.5 hours using a 230V plug.
- AC fast charging: It offers up to 80% SoC in 3 hours using a 6.6kW AC charger.
- DC fast charging: A standout feature in the market, charging from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes at 40kW.

- The 2WD electrified SUV offers three modes - Economy, Standard, and Sport.
- It measures 4,500 mm in width, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height and spans a wheelbase of 2,672 mm.
- The boot capacity is measured at 500 litres, which is expandable up to 1,265 litres.
- The PHEV comes equipped with a 60-litre fuel tank that pumps out 525 Nm of torque.
- Consumers can choose from various colour options, rim styles, and interior upgrades.
