Unveiled: 2016 Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabriolet

Kuala Lumpur: Mercedes-AMG has recently unveiled the V-12 powered 2016 Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabriolet. The dashing 630 hp/1,000Nm S 65 cabriolet is the third variant of its kind and tops the S-Class range of Mercedes-AMG. Visually speaking, the all-new Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabriolet looks pretty much similar to the Mercedes-AMG AMG S 63 Cabriolet, featuring the same stylish exterior, excluding the “V12 Biturbo” badge on the side sills and the S 65 badging at the rear. It's multi-layered acoustic soft top flaunts the same opening and closing electro-hydraulic mechanism that is capable of operating at the speeds of 50 kmph. The soft-top can open and close in 17 seconds.

The only thing which makes the interior of 2016 Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabriolet distinct from the Mercedes-AMG S63 Cabriolet is the “V12 Biturbo” badge on the speedometer, which flaunts the maximum speed of up to 360 kmph, unlike the S 63's 330 kmph. The S65 Cabriolet also features an Aircap automatic wind protection system besides the Airscarf neck-level heating functionality, just like other models of the S-Class.

Under the hood, the S65 Cabriolet features a 6-liter V12 Biturbo Engine that is capable of producing the maximum power of up to 630 hp between 4,800 to 5,400 revolutions and the maximum torque of up to 1,000 Nm between 2,300 to 4,300 rpm. Thanks to the staggering power, the Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabriolet can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 4.1 seconds before hitting the top-speed which is limited to 250 kmph, however, the optional AMG Driver's Package allows you to speed all the way up to 300 kmph. It is worth to mention that the V8-powered S63 cabriolet is still quicker, making its century sprint in just 3.9 seconds. While the S65 cabriolet boasts a distinctive AMG V12 engine, it lacks the 4Matic all-wheel drive system and the power is delivered directly to the rear wheels through an AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic Torque Convert automatic transmission.

The all-new Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabriolet will go on sale in Europe by April 4, 2016. The global launch of this S-Class range-topper will take place in the next month and the other markets across the world will get their S65 Cabriolets soon after.
