UMW Toyota sold 7,528 cars in January 2022, offers savings on the Vios and Yaris
KUALA LUMPUR: After a long hiatus of six years, Toyota regained its position as the No. 1 non-national car brand in Malaysia last year. Holding the title strongly, the Japanese automaker kickstarted 2022 with a bang. It sold a total of 7,528 cars (including Toyota and Lexus) in January with a significant jump of 96% over the same month last year.

Toyota Vios continues to be the best-selling Toyota model in Malaysia in January 2022, accounting for 28% of sales.Accounting for 28% of total sales, the Toyota Vios enjoys the title of the brand’s bestselling model of the month. On the other hand, the Hilux remains the best-selling pick-up truck with 38% of total sales.
On receiving the great numbers, Ravindran K, President of UMW Toyota Motor said, “We are thankful for the government’s decision to extend the Sales and Service Tax (SST) exemption incentives for passenger vehicles until 30 June 2022. This has greatly helped automotive players like us to recover from the impact of the pandemic during the last two years. We also encourage Toyota fans to take advantage of the extended tax exemption to purchase their dream car, coupled with the value for money deals UMW Toyota Motor is offering such as the ongoing Stay Ahead sales campaign to enjoy the best savings during this period.”
While announcing the January sales figures, Toyota also floated a new promo called ‘Stay Ahead’, which offers savings of up to RM 4,500. It includes RM 540 monthly installment with RM 2,216 sales tax savings on the Vios and RM 493 installment on top of RM 2,192 sales tax savings on the Yaris hatchback.

- It contributed RM 10,000 to Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Lui through ‘Back On Your Feet’ programme
- It donated essential home appliances like rice cookers, kettles, and gas stoves to the affected community in Sungai Lui
Also, the Japanese automaker has initiated the transition to sustainable mobility in the country with the launch of the Corolla Cross Hybrid on January 14, 2022. Priced at RM 136,550 (without insurance), it is the brand’s first locally assembled hybrid vehicle based on the TNGA platform.
“Since it was made available for booking in October last year, the Corolla Cross Hybrid was met with the positive response, accounting for more than 40% of the total sales of the Corolla Cross. This shows that Malaysians are in support of environmental sustainability and are taking their first step towards going green through hybrid electric vehicles. We urge our customers to place their bookings early in order to avoid missing out on the SST exemption for better savings”, added Ravindran K.
