UMW Toyota reveals August sales results; gearing up for Veloz launch

KUALA LUMPUR: After Proton and Perodua, the non-national automaker Toyota has revealed its August sales results. The Japanese brand recorded a monthly growth of 37% by selling a total of 9,091 vehicles (8,961 Toyota + 130 Lexus) last month. It is the highest the automaker has recorded this year.

With this, the company’s year-to-date registrations have increased to 61,639 units i.e. 62% more than 38,805 units recorded in the same period last year. However, this comparison is distorted as the country observed a lockdown between June to mid-August in 2021.

“The team at UMW Toyota Motor is extremely grateful for the strong support and we are working around the clock to intensify production to ensure delivery to new car owners,” said UMWT president Ravindran Kurusamy.

The next big thing for the brand is the imminent launch of the Toyota Veloz. The bookings for the MPV started back in June and 5,200 customers have made their reservations so far.

“The introduction of the Toyota Veloz will be a significant moment for us and we are confident it will be popular among Malaysians with its value for money premium offerings, advanced features and of course, the renowned Toyota quality and reliability, '' said UMWT head.

The seven-seater MPV will be available in a sole trim in Malaysia at an estimated price of RM 95,000. It shares the underpinnings with the newly launched Perodua Alza and features modern bits like LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED fog lights, full-width LED tail lights, 17-inch alloys, Qi Wireless charging pad, 7.0-inch coloured MID,, automatic air conditioning system, electric parking brake, and Toyota Safety Sense ADAS pack.

In conjunction with the freedom day celebrations, the automaker is also offering value-added packages with great deals such as RM 4,000 rebate on selected variants of the Yaris and Vios.

Also, the automaker is working very hard to provide the right packages for its customers. “It is our way of going the ‘Extra Mile’ by giving high priority and attention to our customers' needs through our sales and after-sales offerings,” added Ravindran K.
