UMW Toyota Motor steps up its flood relief initiative
KUALA LUMPUR: Recent flash floods in Malaysia have affected every walk of life in the country and a lot of help is pouring in for affected individuals. The automotive industry without wasting any time came forward with great deals and offers as part of the flood relief campaign. Now, further extending its support Toyota has begun dispatching staff volunteers, donating basic household necessities, and is converting its Shah Alam facility into flood ‘Command Centre’.
UMW Toyota Motor staff started reaching the flood-affected areas on 24th December wherein they volunteered to help with the home cleaning process. This initiative of Toyota was supported by Raja Muda of Selangor Foundation, who provided guidance and machine support ensuring a smooth floor of work.
According to the automaker, the volunteers will continue to assist for as long as needed.
Furthermore, Toyota Malaysia has decided to convert its headquarters in Shah Alam into a flood ‘Command Centre’. It will function as a relief distribution centre and a soup kitchen for victims.
President of UMW Toyota Motor, Ravindran. K said, “UMW Toyota Motor stands in solidarity with the community. Malaysians have been going through an extremely challenging period due to the flood and we want to do what we can to provide some relief. We express our sincerest sympathies to all the victims and families affected and we hope that our initiatives will be of some help.”
He added, “We were also inspired and moved by the compassion of the many Malaysians who have volunteered to help out their fellow countrymen, including our group of staff volunteers. We realised that response and relief efforts were slow to take place. Hence, we decided that even for future, we will immediately convert our Shah Alam facility into a flood ‘Command Centre’ to provide kind-hearted Malaysians a safe place to deliver and sort out the relief items before distributing to the surrounding temporary evacuation centres.”
Giving the flood victims additional peace of mind, Toyota ‘Command Centre’ welcomes vehicle owners regardless of the make and models to park their vehicles on the premises.
In addition, UMW Toyota Motor will distribute basic household necessities like fans, stoves, and kettles to flood-affected households in hopes to ease some of their burdens.
“We would like to take this opportunity to convey our heartfelt gratitude towards our suppliers namely Toyota Suppliers Club Malaysia, DENSO Malaysia, Toyota Tsusho and Sime Kansai for stepping up and also providing financial support to our endeavours. This contribution were used to buy household appliances and other necessities to be given as aid to the flood victims” Ravindran K added.
