Toyota Veloz vs Rivals: Price, engine, size and features compared

While UMW Toyota has been accepting the bookings for its upcoming Veloz for over a month now, the MPV’s launch date is yet to be announced. However, to keep the customers’ engagement intact, the automaker is gradually releasing information on the replacement model for the Toyota Avanza. 

So far, it has released the Veloz estimated price, key tech features, dimensions as well inside-out images. We also know that the Toyota MPV is a sister model to the recently-launched Perodua Alza and the two models share chassis and mechanicals. Thus, with the help of all these details, here we compare the upcoming Veloz with its rivals in terms of price, engine, dimensions, and features.

Toyota Veloz vs Rivals: Price

First thing first, the Toyota Veloz price is estimated at RM 95,000 which keeps it in competition with seven-seater MPVs like the Mitsubishi Xpander and Honda BR-V. And, if we look at a bit lower price point, its non-identical twin Alza is there. The price comparison is as follows -

Toyota Veloz vs Rivals: Engine

When it comes to the engine, UMW Toyota has not confirmed the Veloz specification yet. However, it is likely to employ the same 2NR-VE 1.5-litre engine with a D-CVT gearbox as the Perodua Alza. The Xpander and BR-V, on the other hand, also run on 1.5-litre mills. Let’s compare their power, torque, and fuel consumption levels.

With the above table, we can figure out that the BR-V generates the maximum power and peak torque, although the difference is marginal. But, in the case of fuel consumption, Honda is way behind Mitsubishi and Perodua.

In terms of dimensions, the Mitsubishi Xpander is a clear winner with the maximum length, width, height and wheelbase. It also has a leading ground clearance of 205 mm and an impressive boot space of 781 litres. 

The ground clearance of the Veloz is 30 mm higher than the Alza, however, according to Perodua, the Alza has the best height for a good Malaysian drive in the category, which also offers an easy ingress/egress for kids and old-age people.

The above comparison clearly reveals that the Veloz is the best-equipped MPV in the bunch as it is loaded with several modern-day features. However, the new Alza also has an impressive equipment list as per the price point. The BR-V looks much outdated; we hope Honda will soon launch its latest version to the local market to take on the rivals. 

Last, but not least, the Xpander comes with a standard kit and dominated the non-national MPV segment by grabbing huge sales last year. But we think the equations will change after the Veloz launch.
