Toyota Urban Cruiser, the crossover we hope to get
The SUV crossover segment is one blooming area that’s been thriving since day one of arrival. And there is a perfectly good reason for it - they offer all the advantages of an SUV at the price of a hatch. In short, they are SUVs on a budget. Well, whatever may be the case, people like them and auto manufactures are adding models in their lineup hailing from this particular segment. On such automaker is Toyota that has products like C-HR and Harrier in the segment, but now we hear that it is working on a new model. Exciting, right?
But hold on guys, as the car is still in the planning phase, the information in hand is limited. The said car is currently known as the Urban Cruiser, and it is the product of a global alliance between Toyota Motor Corporation and Suzuki Motor Corporation. Under this agreement, the two automakers agreed to share products, technology, and components. The first product to come out of this partnership was Toyota Glanza, which is the rebadged version of the Baleno hatchback available in India. The second output of this partnership is a rebadged version of Vitara Brezza that Toyota will soon launch. In return, Toyota will supply the Corolla sedan to Suzuki.
Now, we are here to discuss Toyota’s upcoming crossover that is nothing but Toyota’s version of the Vitara Brezza. Unlike the Glanza, this one will look a bit different from its Suzuki counterpart. Let’s get to know the Urban Cruiser -
Toyota Urban Cruiser Design
In terms of design, the Urban Cruiser will look a bit different from the Vitara Brezza. Changes are likely to be seen on the front grille, front bumper, and rear bumper. Apart from the cosmetic changes, the car is expected to get several exterior paint options. Parts like headlamps (projector type), LED tail lights, DRLs, and alloy wheel design will be retained.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Cabin
As per the information we have, the Urban Cruiser will tally the feature list of the Vitara Brezza. So, expect the crossover to come with an auto air-con system, 7.0-inch touchscreen information system, cruise control, and rain-sensing wipers. Toyota is most probably introduce Urban Cruiser base trim with better features compared to the Brezza. Changes in the cabin will be limited to colour theme, badges, and upholstery.
Toyota Urban Cruiser engine
Toyota Urban Cruiser will get the same 1.5-litre petrol engine as the Vitara Brezza. The said will pump out a maximum power of 105 PS along with a peak torque of 130 Nm, and it will be coupled either 5-speed MT or 4-speed AT, depending on the variant. All the models will likely get mild-hybrid tech with engine-idle stop-start feature.
Toyota Urban Cruiser launch
Toyota Urban Cruiser is most likely to arrive in the Indian market by the second half of 2020. Its arrival in the rest of the South-East Asian market is not confirmed; however, we hope Toyota Malaysia adds this one.
