Toyota unveils a new electric SUV concept, the bZ
KUALA LUMPUR: The 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show is currently underway in its full glory in the US displaying several breathtaking concepts and road-ready models; one of which is the Toyota bZ. It is the brand’s latest electric compact SUV prototype hailing from its bZ (Beyond zero) division, introduced last year.

The Toyota bZ concept sports a sleeker and sharper design with hook-shaped headlamps, sloping roofline and sleek tail lights. It is the Subaru Solterra twin as both Japanese EVs share the same underpinnings under a collaboration. The Toyota EV has also marked its entry into the ASEAN market with its launch in Thailand and Indonesia; Malaysia is also expected to get this Japanese electric SUV soon.
Coming back to the bZ Concept, it previews the brand’s vision for greener mobility. The SUV underpins the clean-vital design approach comprising zero tailpipe emissions, the use of sustainable materials, and eco-friendly manufacturing. It also brings forward dynamic performance, leading technology, and a stylish appearance.
"We've only just begun to scratch the surface of the Beyond Zero moniker," said Toyota group vice president and general manager David Christ. "With an aerodynamic design coupled with intuitive tech features never before seen in a Toyota model, the bZ Concept showcases another possible vision of the very near future with our battery electric vehicles."
The SUV appears a bit smaller than the bZ4X and also sports a sleeker and sharper design. Among the key exterior highlights are a shark-like nose, C-shaped daytime running lights, hook-shaped headlamps linked via a light bar, and a distinctive bumper accompanied by air channels and vertical LED light bars. Further, the dynamic sloping roofline of the EV is combined with a dual-element roof spoiler, a steeply raked rear window, and sleek tail lights.
Toyota also revealed the interior of the EV featuring a yoke steering wheel, a curved infotainment screen, and a gauge cluster mated to a digital assistant named ‘Yui’ and several components made up of recyclable and plant-based materials.
Along with the bZ concept, Toyota also unveiled the all-new Prius and Prius Prime Hybrid during the event.
