Toyota to unveil two new hybrids on May 18
KUALA LUMPUR: The Covid-19 pandemic has delayed a lot of major automotive events and launches. It has been a long time since we saw a new product launch event. Giving our dull days a spark of excitement, Toyota has announced the unveiling of two new hybrid vehicles. How & when? Well, you can catch the unveiling via a livestream on May 18 at 11:00 AM EDT. Also, the 2021 Toyota Prius 2020 Edition will be a part of the event.
Toyota has given no hints about the identity of the vehicles, but we have some clue. Information from the company’s dealer meeting tells that the 2021 Sienna would be offered exclusively with a hybrid mill and is alleged to go on sale in the fall.
We have also been hearing rumours that Toyota will revive the Venza nameplate for a crossover that would be manufactured in Alabama. Production will not begin until September 2021, meaning that the car would go on sale as a 2022 model. The current information suggests that the crossover will be available with only a hybrid powertrain.
Besides, it is reported that the next-gen Tundra also benefits from a new hybrid mill. The said powertrain is reportedly a version of the 3.5-litre twin-turbo electrified V6 unit. The variant of this unit in the LS 500h develops 354 hp of power. However, as per information sourced, it is due for a December 2021 debut, so it might not be what Toyota is teasing for the May 18 reveal.
A while back, Toyota revealed details about the 2021 Prius 2020 Edition that is limited to 2,020 units. The model is said to commemorate 20 years of the hybrid vehicle in the states. The special edition Prius is available in Wind Chill Pearl and Supersonic Red tones along with lots of black trims all over. The 2021 Prius is fitted with an improved suite of driver assistance technology. All being said, Toyota is yet to reveal the 2021 Prius 2020 Edition price.
