Toyota to debut A90 Supra GRMN; more powerful than standard model
KUALA LUMPUR: The Toyota GR Supra is already a very popular performance-oriented sports car. However, if that wasn’t enough, the Japanese automaker is reported to debut a more powerful version of the Supra this year. This is not an official confirmation but reports have been taken from a popular Japanese motor magazine - Best Car Web.
To put more light on this report, Tetsuya Tada, who is the chief engineer of GR Supra quoted that a new version of the car could be brought every year. Hence, there are high possibilities that the reported more powerful version could be one of them.
The sportier Toyota GR Supra will be wearing the “GRMN” moniker. This badge is specifically reserved for higher tuned sports cars that are produced in the company’s shed. It will receive quite a lot of updates, both mechanical and aesthetic, over the standard version to make it sportier.
To start with, the upcoming Toyota Supra GRMN will have an updated suspension tuned to offer better stability and also to make for better handling. Apart from this, there will also be other visual changes to differentiate it from the standard Supra. Among the visual changes, there GRMN is listed to have a redesigned front and rear bumper. Moreover, the rear wing is also expected to be fixed. The automaker is also looking to lower the weight of the higher-tuned model by adding a lot of low-weight carbon fibre components. This will enhance performance even further.
The Toyota Supra GRMN is expected to be driven by a higher tune of the 3.0-litre, turbocharged, inline 6-cylinder engine. This engine is expected to produce 400 PS of power, which is 60 PS more power over the standard version.
The return of the A90 Toyota GR Supra in the Malaysian market marked the continuation of the heritage that the model carried right from the A40 in 1978. The standard model is powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder (inline), turbocharged engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 340 PS along with a peak torque of 500 Nm. It can hit the 0-100 kmph acceleration in just 4.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 250 kmph.
