Toyota S-FR specifications leaked!

Kuala Lumpur: Technical specifications for Toyota's S-FR sports car concept have been leaked ahead of the car's debut at the Tokyo motor show later this month.

The specifications, which were posted on an online forum, quote Japanese figures and suggest the S-FR will be powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 130 PS and 148 Nm of torque. The engine will be coupled to a six-speed manual transmission, with no automatic option available. The car should be capable of returning up to 10 kmpl of mileage on Japan's JC08 test cycle.

The leaked specs indicate the S-FR will barely register at the automotive scale with a reported curb weight of just 2,160 pounds. Toyota says the front-engined, rear wheel drive coupé offers “smooth, responsive and direct handling that gives a real sense of communication between car and driver.” The concept has been envisioned with future tuning and customization in mind and features a pared-back interior with a digital instrument cluster and very few buttons inside.

In the chassis department, Toyota is going with a front strut suspension setup while the rear gets a dual-wishbone design. Toyota is also planning an aggressive pricing strategy.

The S-FR concept is described as being a “fun-to-drive lightweight sports car” and is pitched as an entry-level model, which means any production variant would sit underneath the current GT86. Its dimensions make the S-FR significantly shorter, narrower and lower than the current GT86, with a smaller wheelbase. The exact body proportions measures as 3990 mm length (75 mm longer), 1695 mm width (35 mm narrower) and 1320 mm height (85 mm taller), with a wheelbase (165 mm longer).

The pricing is expected to be only an astounding 1.5 million yen (RM52k), considerably undercutting the 2,494,800 yen (RM86,500) base model MX-5.
