Toyota Rush - Safety explained
There’s a belief that bigger cars are safer cars. While it might be true to some extent, however, in today’s day and age, things have changed. Even hatchbacks are now equipped with basic as well as some high-end, advanced safety features to keep people safe. Take Toyota Yaris for example, it comes with 7 airbags as standard across all its variants. That alone enhances the car’s overall safety rating.

- Pre-collision Warning
- Pre-collision Braking
- Front Departure Alert
- Pedal Missoperation Control
The Pre-collision Warning and Braking System automatically alerts you with a buzzer and applies the brakes if there is an increased risk of a frontal collision. When there is a stationary vehicle in front of you, the Front Departure Alert notifies you if the vehicle at the front moves ahead.
Pedal Misoperation Control suppresses engine output if you accidentally step on the accelerator pedal, reducing collision damage from obstacles ahead due to sudden acceleration.
Apart from these ‘Intelligent Prevention’ safety features, Toyota Rush specs have a handful of basic safety features, too, that are just as important as the high-end safety features.
Basic safety features-
- 6 SRS airbags
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
- Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD)
- Brake Assist (BA)
- Emergency Stop Signal (ESS)
- Parking Sensors (Front and rear) with reverse panoramic view monitor
- Auto Door Lock
- Seatbelts (Front) - 3-point ELR x2, with Pretensioner & Force Limiter
- Seatbelts (2nd Row) - 3-point ELR x3
- Seatbelts (3rd Row) - 3-point ELR x2
- ISOFIX
These basic safety features are available in both the Toyota Rush variants. Apart from them, there are a few features that sit a notch above the basic features. They also come as standard with the Rush. These features are-
Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) - they are like an extra precaution. An indicator appears on the side-view mirror when there is an object in your blind spot, while the Rear Cross-Traffic Alert notifies you of people or vehicles passing behind you.
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) - The VSC prevents the vehicle from spinning and provides optimal stability in varying road and weather conditions by applying brakes to the wheels individually to prevent oversteer or understeer.
Traction Control (TRC) - TRC provides more traction when accelerating on slippery surfaces by applying brakes individually to each wheel and reducing engine power to reduce wheel spin for more traction.
Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) - It keeps your vehicle from rolling back on a steep slope. When you lift your foot off the brake pedal, the pressure is maintained just before the accelerator is pressed.
Digital Video Recorder - Stay alert even when you're away from your car with the front-view DVR that records footage in case of emergencies. It’s like a dashcam.
So there you have it guys. These were all the safety features that come with the Toyota Rush and they are the reason why the Rush was awarded a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating in both Adult and Child Occupant categories in 2018.
Toyota Rush price starts at RM 93,000. It is available in only two variants - 1.5G and 1.5S (RM 97,000) - both of them come in 5 different colours - White, Blue, Titanium Silver, Dark Grey and Metallic Green.
