Although the number is 0.1% less than the units delivered in 2021, it helped Toyota retain its title of world's best-selling automaker for the third time in a row.
On achieving this figure, the Japanese car giant commented, “Despite the impact of production constraints caused by the spread of COVID-19, increased demand for semiconductors, and other factors, global sales were at the same level year-on-year as a result of solid demand centered around Asia.”
On number 2 is the Volkswagen Group which announced its sales results earlier this month. The German conglomerate managed to sell a total of 8.3 million vehicles in 2022 which is observed as its lowest-ever sales in over a decade. Coming back to Toyota, the company's total sales figure consists of 2.7 million electrified vehicles, which is almost 5% more than compared to 2021. Hybrid vehicles were the major contributor to this number with 2.6 million deliveries.
