Toyota plans to resume production in North America from April 20

KUALA LUMPUR: The outbreak of COVID-19 has created a lot of panic worldwide. In the past few weeks, we have seen that several automakers have suspended their production for one to two weeks and Toyota is one of them. The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota decided to halt the manufacturing in North American factories on March 23. However, it was supposed for two days only and meanwhile, the firm has taken all the preventive measures to control the coronavirus spread in the factories. But later on, the firm has extended the suspension time to April 3 for the obvious concern.

Now a recent statement from the company mentioned, “Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and significant decline in vehicle demand, Toyota will further extend the length of its production suspension. We will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action in a timely manner.” So as per the current plans of the company, the production is scheduled to start from April 20. Though, the logistics centres and vehicle parts departments will remain open during this time.

The other manufacturers including Ford, FCA have also made their statements about restarting the production process. Ford plans to resume production at Hermosillo, Mexico plant on April 6 and Dearborn Truck, Michigan plant will be reopening from April 14. While FCA has decided that manufacturing will not be resumed before April 14. 

Toyota has also halted the production activities in Japan when an employee tested positive for coronavirus at the Takaoka plant. Due to the severe decline in the overseas demand, the firm has decided to shut down the manufacturing of the seven production lines in the country.
