Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series is set to return to Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series has been absent from the Japanese market for almost a decade and now it is all set to make a comeback. The catch is the absence of a V8 engine which will be replaced by a 2.8-liter 4-cylinder diesel unit.

As per Japan’s popular publication, Best Car, Toyota LandCruiser will be on sale in Japan by the end of 2023. The media outlet further claims the car features round headlights, it also published a digital illustration of the car, thus helping to imagine what the upcoming Toyota might look like.

As for Toyota fulfilling V8 orders while the company is doing its best, however, it is not clear what will happen to customers in the queue when the 70 Series phases out the V8 mill and switches to a smaller diesel unit.

It is not the first time we are hearing about LandCruiser 70 Series adopting Prado’S 2.8-diesel turbo diesel engine and 5-speed automatic gearbox. Prior to this, rumors about the car have been seen flying high.

Currently, in several markets, the 70 Series runs in the 202 hp/430 NM 4.5-liter turbo diesel V8 unit coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Back in 2020, the US publication Drive reported that Toyota will phase out its entire range of V8 engines within the next three years, which now seems to be falling true.
