Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series may debut soon
KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota plans to roll out the next-generation update of the legendary Land Cruiser this year, but before that happens, several spy shots and videos of the revamped SUV are surfacing over the internet every now and then. The recent leak reveals some internal documents of the company that discloses the automaker’s plans of revealing the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series at the end of May 2021.
The leaked documents posted on land.cruiser.300 Instagram account hail from South Africa and detail the upcoming SUV’s trims and their specs in the country. According to that, the 2022 Land Cruiser 300 Series will be available in three variants - GX-R, GR-S, and ZX. The base GX-R will equip a diesel mill under the bonnet, while the mid-spec GR-S and top-spec ZX will be offered in both gasoline and diesel engines.
While the details on the engines’ displacement and power figures are not available, the market speculates the offering of a 3.3-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine and a 3.5-litre V6 twin-turbo petrol engine. A 10-speed automatic gearbox unit is likely to take care of the transmission duties.
Just like the 100 Series and 200 Series, the upcoming Land Cruiser 300 Series is expected to be offered with two approaches, first is a strong and capable off-road-bound FWD i.e. GR-S trim inline with Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division and another is a plush on-road approach in the GX-R and ZX trims.
The on-road versions get an independent suspension at the front and a four-link setup at the back, whereas the GR-S will have the E-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) that involves electronics to control the sway bars. Also on offer would be a torque-sensing limited-slip differential on the range-topping ZX and front and rear differential locks on the off-road model.
About the design, the secret documents say, "Due to Global Embargo, design images are not available until the end of May 2021." However, we have earlier leaked images in hand that reveal a more muscular and modern-looking design of the SUV carrying a similar overall shape as the ongoing 200 version.
Toyota has not yet made any comment on this rumor debut date.
