Toyota kept momentum going in 2024, still top non-national brand in Malaysia?
KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota just like in 2023 are on a roll again and there seems to be no sign of them slowing down. In 2024, the much loved brand held its spot as the leading non-national carmaker in Malaysia.
UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) closed the year strong, selling over 12,800 cars in December alone.
That has brought their total to a massive 102,300 units for the year of 2024. That’s three consecutive years they are smashing past the 100,000-unit milestone – which in an increasingly competitive market where new players have come, is no small feat.

So, which models are doing good when it comes to sales? No surprises of course: the ever rugged Hilux, the dependable but stylish Vios, and the ever-popular Corolla Cross. These three Toyota models continue to resonate with Malaysians, proving that Toyota’s formula of reliability and practicality is still a favourite amongst Malaysian
But Toyota’s game isn’t just about new car sales – their aftersales operation is also one of their key focus areas. According to UMWT, In 2024, over 1.42 million Toyota customers returned to their service centres to keep their vehicles in tip top condition.
This seems to be a serious vote of confidence in Toyota’s ability to keep their cars in tip top shape where it seems they have come back for more without thinking going anywhere else.
What’s the secret sauce? According to UMWT, it’s their “Multi-Pathway Approach.” Stripped of the jargon, it means they’re offering something for everyone.
Whether you’re after a fuel-efficient daily driver, a no-nonsense workhorse, or something more eco-friendly, Toyota’s got you covered. Plus, they’re actively helping push Malaysia towards a new TIV record which could see us crack the 800,000 mark.
As 2025 rolls in, Toyota shows no signs of easing up, and in the few early days of 2025, have already launched three new GR vehicles, on top of the launch of the Corolla Cross facelift and the Hybrid Camry.
The plan it seems for Toyota in Malaysia is to keep delivering cars Malaysians love, maintaining top-notch service, and staying at the forefront of the country’s automotive scene.
