Toyota issues recall for cars with faulty airbag inflator
Kuala Lumpur: A nationwide recall has been issued from UMW Toyota for models which include Toyota Camry, Corolla Altis, Toyota Vios, Yaris and RAV4. This recall has been aimed at rectifying the problem of the faulty Takata airbag inflator on side of front passenger and front driver's airbag. According to the company, this is a severe issue and the flaw could cause this airbag to inflate in an abnormal way in case of an accident or a fatality. This “special service campaign” will affect a total of about 97,000 units assembled within the country from 2001 to 2007, and it has been cleared by the company that no Toyota/Lexus manufactured in Malaysia before of after this span of years.
UMW Toyota will themselves contact the customers of affected drives regarding this campaign and if the replacement is imminent, it will be replaced with a new airbag inflator module for free.
