Toyota introduces Supra RZ edition in Japan

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota has been long in the Japanese automaker’s lineup, and that’s the reason why it is getting an updated version. Known as the Supra RZ Edition, it is exclusively for the Japanese market and is slated to be a 2021 model. Also, it is packed with several upgrades.

The Supra RZ is pretty much in line with the 2021 Supra A91 Edition that was introduced in the U.S. market in February. That being said, the most significant update the Supra has received for its home market is the 14% bump in power. The BMW sourced 3.0-litre B58 twin-turbo engine now produces a maximum power of 382 hp along with a peak torque of 499 Nm.

In comparison to the 3.0-litre mill in the ongoing model that develops 335 hp and 495 Nm of torque - the RZ edition gets a substantial power bump putting Supra on the same scale as the BMW Z4 M40i. Besides, the car’s acceleration has been improved, and it can touch the 96 kmph mark in 3.9 seconds (earlier it took 4.1 seconds).

The updated Supra benefits from a front brace that adds to the body rigidity, and the suspension has been retuned as well for better cornering.

The Toyota Supra RZ Edition is offered in an exclusive limited colour option, called Horizon Blue. It is the same colour we saw the Gran Turismo Sport flaunting. The blue hue is not just limited to the exterior, as in the cabin, we see accentuated stitches on the dashboard, seat, and steering wheel. Also, the smaller 6.5-inch display is replaced by a bigger 8.8-inch infotainment screen in all models.

In Japan, the 2021 Supra is available in seven colour options, including the new Horizon Blue (100 units) and limited Matte Storm Grey Metallic (27 units). Toyota has opened its ordering books for the car in Japan with deliveries commencing from October 2020.
