Toyota Hilux GR Sport gets an upgrade in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Just last week, Toyota introduced the all-new Corolla GR Sport in Malaysia, and now, in the following week, it has rolled out a power upgrade for the Hilux GR Sport.

The sportier version of the popular pickup truck is now powered by a more powerful 1GD-FTV 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine kicking out 224 PS of maximum power and 550 Nm of peak torque. Compared to the earlier iteration, the upgraded mill delivers 20 PS more power and 50 Nm more torque.

While the engine gets an update, the transmission system continues to be the same 6-speed automatic transmission. It comes with sequential and gear shift paddles and transfers power to all four wheels via a part-time 4WD system, which is mated to an auto limited-slip differential.

The upgraded Toyota Hilux GR Sport price also remains unchanged at RM 169,080 (on the road without insurance). Included in the price is a 5-year/150,000 km (whichever comes earlier) manufacturer warranty from the date of first registration.

The exterior continues to feature all-LED lighting, blacked-out side mirrors, GR badging, 18-inch wheels, and red brake callipers with GR Sport branding.

The interior is kitted with a 4-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel with variable flow control and paddle shifters, GR-themed Optitron metre with the GR welcome animation, GR push start button and smart key, aluminium sports pedals, all-around red stitching, plenty of GR badges, 9-inch infotainment unit, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Parts of the safety kit are - seven airbags, a pre-collision system, lane departure alert, dynamic radar cruise control, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, downhill assist control, active traction control, vehicle stability control system, reverse sensors, and a reverse camera.

The sporty pickup comes in three colour tones - Super White II, Crimson Spark Red Metallic, and Attitude Black Mica.
