Toyota GR Supra GT4 50 Edition race car limited to just six units

KUALA LUMPUR: When Toyota introduced the 2020 Supra, the automaker without missing a beat took the car for racing. The same year, the GR Supra GT4 was also launched with the sales for this track-only car boiling down to 50 units by the end of 2021. Now, Toyota is adding six more units to the figure with the new GR Supra GT4 50 Edition.

Over and above the standard car, the new Toyota GR Supra GT4 50 Edition showcases a handful of special add-ons. For instance -

• Each of the six GR Supra GT4 50 Editions is sprayed in a special red hue with a golden livery
• The driver gets a new race seat with embroidered branding
• A passenger seat is added as a standard fitment
• A new 50 Edition branding can be seen on the inside and outside
• The car’s raw carbon-fibre dashboard gets a number plaque
• An indoor car cover for transport

On the styling front, the car showcases a big wing along with a mean chin spoiler on its steel body. The side windows reveal the car’s track-only ambition, however, it is the interior that gives out its non-standard Supra nature with elements like a high-strength roll cage and complete carbon-fibre unit instead of a dashboard.

What powers the new GR Supra GT4 50 Edition?

The Toyota race car is powered by the BMW-supplied 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged mill making a maximum power of 424 hp. The drive is sent to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission.

Ever since its introduction, the GR Supra GT4 has participated in over 250 races, delivering 36 class wins and 78 podiums. The future models are unlikely to include manual transmission, even though rumours suggest otherwise for the 2023 model year.

Toyota will continue to develop and produce the race car. As for the model year 2023, a manual gearbox is on cards, however, we highly doubt it.
