Toyota Eco Youth 2025 registration opens – More Schools, bigger Impact in Malaysia

This year marks the 24th edition of TEY, which has significantly expanded, doubling the number of participating schools and boosting the total funding available to RM167,000.
Since launching in 2001, TEY has impacted nearly 600 schools and over 300,000 Malaysian students, equipping them with essential skills to become effective community leaders. Beyond just competition, Toyota actively supports participants by providing mentorship, industry knowledge, and real-world environmental problem-solving experiences.

Enhanced Support, Increased Participation
For the first time, TEY will feature 30 schools—twice the number from previous years. Each selected school will receive a RM3,000 grant, totaling RM90,000, to initiate their sustainability projects. Participants will also compete for RM77,000 in cash prizes distributed across various categories:
- Champion: RM30,000
- Second Place: RM20,000
- Third Place: RM10,000
Additionally, RM5,000 prizes will be awarded for:
- Best Social Media Campaign
- Best Presentation
- Best Exhibition
A special RM2,000 prize will be given to the Most Supportive Teacher.
Practical Impact Through Hands-on Experience
TEY’s track record includes various successful community projects. For example, students in Kuala Bikam developed a system to reduce agricultural waste and enhance local waste management, positively affecting community health. Another group in Penang addressed marine pollution by creating a local clean-up initiative, effectively reviving the marine ecosystem. In Sarawak, participants introduced sustainable agricultural methods to villages, significantly cutting down on harmful chemical usage.
At the core of TEY is Toyota’s 8-Step Problem-Solving Methodology (PSM), which provides students with a structured approach to addressing environmental problems. This technique helps them identify issues, understand root causes, and implement lasting solutions. Past projects have addressed challenges ranging from waste management to water conservation and renewable energy.
Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, emphasized the practical nature of TEY, stating, "Toyota Eco Youth isn’t just about raising awareness—it’s about action. By doubling school participation and increasing funding, we are giving more students the opportunity to develop solutions that will drive Malaysia toward a greener future.
