Touch n’ Go Reloads banned at all PLUS Highways in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR: PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PMB) has stopped providing Touch n’ Go reload facilities at all the toll exit lanes that are under its management since yesterday, November 5, 2019. Motorists who were travelling along all the PLUS highways since yesterday morning were not allowed to reload their Touch n’ Go cards from the toll plaza booths. This made many passengers upset since they had to go all the way down to petrol stations, toll plaza offices or banks for reloading their cards.
Even though there are over 11,000 reload facilities available across all the major petrol stations, ATMs, convenience stores and shopping malls, it was not very easy for a majority of the people to travel all the way up to these places and reload their cards. It was more convenient for them to get their cards reloaded on their way at the toll exit spots while travelling down the PLUS highways.
PMB has issued a statement declaring its decision to stop all Touch n’ Go card reloading facilities. The reason behind this movement is to prevent congestion caused when numerous passengers gather at the toll plazas to reload their cards, especially during peak hours.
Many people reacted negatively to this decision of the PLUS Malaysia Berhad. However, it would be quite convenient for many passengers who are in a great rush during the peak office hours and like to avoid all congestion.
According to another statement issued by PMB, abolishing all reloading booths between Ipoh South and Seremban along the highway, reduced congestion by about 60%. This is good news for passengers who have their Touch n’ Go cards reloaded automatically through credit cards linked to them.
However, it would be beneficial for many people if PMB could rethink about their verdict. They might also consider allowing passengers to reload their cards during the off-peak hours instead. Nevertheless, we would like to advise all the PLUS highway users to try out other reloading stations that would be convenient for them. It would be better if you have sufficient balance in your cards prior to journeys or try linking credit or debit cards to your Touch n’ Go cards.
