The world’s most searched car brand for 2021 is …
KUALA LUMPUR: Thanks to Compare the Market who has analysed the Google Trends data we now know the most searched car brand of 2021. It’s none other than Toyota, what’s even better is that the Japanese automaker acquired the title for the second consecutive year.
Sun seems to shine bright on Toyota as it is also the most selling car brand in the US (breaking GM’s long record) and Australia (for 25 years straight) for 2021.
Coming back to its global search dominance, the data showed that Toyota topped searches in 47 out of 154 nations, that’s almost 31 percent of the total searches. However, it is not all good, compared to 2020, Toyota’s searches have dropped by 4 percent, meaning other brands are gaining some ground.
Compare the Market only began publishing the Google search report from 2018, out of which Toyota topped the list in 2018, 2020, and 2021. And the top three positions are juggled between Toyota, Mercedes, and BMW.
The year 2019 showed some interesting findings with BMW securing the top position with topping searches in 118 countries, leaving the rest to dust. The German automaker to date holds the title of most searched brand across all four years.
Mercedes, on the other hand, like every year sits in third place, however, compared to the last year its searches have improved. Last year it was 19 countries short of 2nd position, however, this year it was only 6 countries behind.
Audi’s ranking improved from 6th in 2020 to 4th in 2021. It was the most searched brand in 11 countries in 2021.
It was for the first time Tesla was incorporated into the analysis by Compare the Market. The EV builder appeared in the top three searches for 24 countries, however, it was listed in the top search of only five countries - Singapore, China, Israel, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Searches for brands like Nissan, Ford and Peugeot dropped by at least three places. For instance, Ford’s position dropped from 5th position in 2020 to 9th position in 2021.
How was Toyota able to grab the No.1 search spot for the second time in a row?
Well, we don’t know for sure but in November 2021, Toyota Gazoo Racing announced the reproduction of Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno spare parts. The catch here is that these parts were previously discontinued and with Toyota’s reintroduction plan car lovers could once again enjoy their beloved vehicles from the past. Furthermore, Toyota introduced a bunch of new cars in 2021, including the world-first Corolla SUV, redesigned Land Cruiser, and a full line-up of electric cars.
