Tesla announces to build its first European factory in Berlin
KUALA LUMPUR: The American automotive manufacturer, Tesla has announced to build its first European factory in Berlin. CEO Elon Musk made it official on Tuesday that the company will build a ‘Gigafactory,’ and design & engineering centre in Berlin, Germany. This plant is going to be Tesla’s fourth Gigafactory after the first one in Nevada, near Reno, which manufactures power electronics and charging equipment in Buffalo, New York.
The carmaker also has plans to create Tesla Solar Roof tiles someday. Elon Musk said in a statement, “Everyone knows that German engineering is outstanding, for sure. That’s part of the reason why we are locating our Gigafactory Europe in Germany. We are also going to create an engineering and design centre in Berlin because Berlin has some of the best art in the world.”
After further interrogation, Musk revealed that the plant would be established in the Berlin area, which near to the new airport. The location was revealed while Musk was addressing an award ceremony in Germany. He was awarded “Golden Steering Wheel Award” by a publication named Bild, which is owned by Axel Springer.
For many years Musk has been talking about building a European factory. In the year 2016, the CEO provided a hint that the European factory should be located in Germany.
Even if the U.S. revenue of the brand dropped in the third quarter, its sales have grown in European countries in the same period. Tesla stated in the third-quarter update that it plans to manufacture its forthcoming Model Y and already-famous Model 3 electric sedans at the European plant.
