Stellantis unveils electrification plans for the ASEAN region

KUALA LUMPUR: Stellantis, which holds leading brands like Ram, Maserati, Peugeot, Citroën, Jeep, and Alfa Romeo, has revealed its electrification plans for the ASEAN market.

    Stellantis will invest over RM2 billion for the introduction of the STLA Medium platform in the ASEAN region. The STLA Medium platform facilitates multi-energy vehicle production, including BEV, ICE, and MHEV, for the ASEAN region, resulting in local sourcing opportunities for local suppliers and manufacturers of over RM 5 billion within the next four years. It can also generate new job opportunities and lead to the local assembly of battery packs.

The potential of EVs is immense in ASEAN, and we want to lead the expansion of electrification in this region. Producing EVs here in ASEAN includes the development and engineering of vehicles tailored to the specific needs of local consumers in this region,” said Daniel Gonzalez, Chief Operating Officer for ASEAN & General Distributors at Stellantis.

    Stellantis is focusing on its electrification strategy through partnership investments and partnerships. It has collaborated with the stakeholders and the Indonesian government, aiming to promote electric vehicle growth and localize battery materials. In 2024, Stellantis plans to start the Citroën electric vehicles local assembly in Indonesia in 2024. Apart from this, the company is also exploring its Gurun plant’s capabilities to become a battery electric vehicles regional manufacturing hub. 

    In 2022, Stellantis had net revenues of €180 billion, and it is determined to promote BEVs through its diverse brand portfolio in the ASEAN region. The company aims to achieve an annual global sales target of approximately 5 million BEV vehicles by 2030.
