Spied: An awakened Rolls Royce Dawn
Kuala Lumpur: Its a new dawn for Rolls Royce, as some of the spy snappers have caught a 'drophead' convertible version of Rolls-Royce Wraith, dubbed as 'Dawn'. The name Dawn, which was confirmed this year in may, is an inspiration from the classic coaches from the 40's and early 50's. The spy shots have arrived before its possible debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015.
Going by the prototype, the Rolls Royce Dawn features heavy camouflage but its grey fabric on the roof gives a clear hint of it being a convertible. To conceal its identity, the R-R logos were also taped and there were no visible badges elsewhere. Most of its body panels will remain the same as the latest Wraith coupe apart from the obvious adoption of a folding roof which would be a automated fabric roof and not a hard folding roof.
The similarities between Wraith and Dawn will carry on under the skin also. The Rolls Royce Dawn would be powered by the same 6.6-litre twin-turbo V12 engine producing a maximum power of 624 hp and a peak torque of 800 Nm. This beast goes from zero to 100 kmph in just 4.6 seconds with a top speed limited to 250 kmph. Then again, we are talking about Rolls-Royce, who are not really known for compromising. So you can expect this convertible to be priced at RM1.3 million.
Earlier, during the name reveal in May this year, Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes said- “Our new Rolls Royce Dawn promises a striking encounter like no other Rolls-Royce to date. Dawn is a beautiful new open-top motor car with a name that suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds- an awakening, an opening up of one's senses and a burst of sunshine”
