Sony Vision-S Concept revealed at the 2020 CES
KUALA LUMPUR: Sony, the Japanese multinational company, often known for its playing consoles, televisions, laptops, and music players, stunned everyone at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) by revealing a concept car, called the Vision-S Concept, which is an electric car with the advanced autonomous driving system.
While nobody expected such a reveal from the Tokyo-based conglomerate, it was to make the world aware of what the brand is capable of and how it can contribute to the world of automobiles. Developed in collaboration with Bosch, Continental, Nvidia, ZF, and Qualcomm, the sleek-looking sedan features not less than 33 sensors. The sensors aren’t just for detecting people and objects outside the car but inside too.
The concept has a giant glass roof, four-seat cabin with individual rear seats and screen-studded dash that displays footage obtained from the outside rearview cameras, the side mirrors have been replaced with cameras. Additionally, the concept gets a 360 Reality Audio system with superior sound quality. Seats also have been embedded with speakers for enhancing the sound experience.
For the platform, Sony joined hands with Magna Steyr, which also manufactured platforms for cars like BMW Z4, Toyota Supra, and Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Nothing openly has been said about the sedan’s technical specs apart from the things like the Vision-S Concept features two 200 kW electric motors, which are capable of producing 272 PS of power. The setup enables it to sprint to 100 Kmph from zero in 4.8 seconds before attaining its top speed of 240 Kmph.
About the transformation from concept into a production model, nothing has been revealed. The company has remained silent for the moment but we are hoping that the car will at least be made available virtually in the Gran Turismo Sport.
