Social distancing at its best, Geely delivers car keys via drone
KUALA LUMPUR: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing is the best precaution we all can take. Following the suit, Geely puts its customers' safety on priority and makes new vehicle delivery much safer by using drones. Earlier, the Chinese automaker also announced an N95 cabin air filtration system for all its models.
In its homeland, Geely has been selling cars via its online marketplace. The car is delivered straight to the owner’s home; this way, there is minimum contact between individuals and fewer chances of the virus getting transmitted. Part of the home car delivery process is the vehicle getting fully disinfected when it arrives at its new home. Further maintaining social distancing, the car key is now handed over to the customer using drones.
The drone delivers the key to the customer directly at their door or balcony, thus ‘creating a truly contactless process’. At the moment, the drone key delivery system is available for a select few locations.
According to the Chinese automaker, it has already sold more than 10,000 cars through its online marketplace. Deals that are finalized online are transferred to local dealers that then disinfect the car through ionization and then drop the car to the customer’s home.
During these difficult times, such contactless deliveries are one-way for carmakers to sell cars. However, we would suggest not to leave your home until it’s essential and unavoidable.
