Smart #1 gets a new AWD variant, #1 Pulse

KUALA LUMPUR: Yes, the Smart #1 is scheduled to enter Malaysia soon, however, for now, the Chinese automaker has introduced a new variant of the EV. Called the Smart #1 Pulse AWD, it is the first non-Brabus version of the car.

Positioned between the 'Premium' and the ‘Brabus’ versions, the Pulse trim is introduced in the European market first.

Smart Europe CEO, Dirk Adelmann said, “We are especially excited for the #1 Pulse as it offers a further all-wheel drivetrain option for European customers. Our development and production setup enables us to stay on top of changing demand situations and incorporate appropriate solutions for our customers quickly.”

Let us get to know the all-new Smart #1 Pulse AWD variant in detail -

Powertrain

The Smart #1 Pulse AWD trim features a dual-motor setup that allows the EV to complete a century sprint in just 4.5 seconds which is slower than Brabus’s 3.9 sec time but faster than the normal rear-wheel drive Smart #1 which takes 6.7 secs to hit the 100 kmph mark.

The automaker has not specified the power details, however, a quicker acceleration time suggests a larger output compared to the RWD version.

With an extra motor on the front axle, the Pulse trim offers a little less range (400 km) over the RWD version (440 km).

Charging

The new trim houses the 66 kWh battery as the other trims and it can be charged via both AC and DC chargers.

AC charging	22 kW	3 hours to charge from 10% to 80%
DC charging	150 kW	30 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%

Features

The Smart # 1 Pulse is not only a striking-looking car but also comes loaded with several utilities features both on the outside and inside. The list includes -

Safety

The new smart #1 Pulse comes equipped with a wide range of active safety technologies like - Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and automatic parking assistant.
