Sime Darby Motors sales coming back on track, thanks to SST exemption
KUALA LUMPUR: Under the economic stimulus plan, the Malaysian government granted a sales tax exemption on the purchase of new cars earlier this month. In line with this, several car dealers adjusted their price lists and rolled out new ones. Among these, Sime Darby Motors, the well-known retailer of prominent car brands in Malaysia, witnessed a boom in demand for its vehicles due to slashed prices and appreciated the government’s take on this.
Jeffrey Gan, the Managing Director of Sime Darby Motors’ Retail & Distribution arm said that the positive market response towards their recent sales campaign indicates that while many consumers may be cautious about returning to normal life, they also view personal vehicles as an essential investment for their safety, and in maintaining social distancing. And with the added tax exemptions as an incentive, the signs of recovery are visible as foot traffic and orders across all their bands are returning to pre-lockdown levels.
To handle the increased foot-fall, the organization is completely unholding the standard operating procedures set by the government. It keeps the safety and health of employees, customers, and business partners on the highest priority.
Mr. Gan also stated that this is the best time for consumers to own their dream cars with great savings and peace of mind that the company’s dedicated professionals would care about their sales and after-sales needs.
Currently, Sime Darby Motors has 27 retailing branches selling BMW, MINI, BMW Motorrad, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, Porsche, Ford, and Hyundai vehicles, and also a separate wing, Sime Darby Auto Selection, for retailing quality pre-owned cars.
Sime Darby Motors has also built a first of its kind auto mall in the country with an investment of RM 560 million. Known as Sime Darby Motors City, the mall is located at Ara Damansara.
Recently, the company also launched a Corporate Programme for its corporate clients. Under this, it offers discounts of up to 10% from a vehicle’s Recommended Retail Price depending on the brand and model on the purchase of a minimum of two vehicles.
