Shanghai Auto Show 2021: Nissan previews all-new X-Trail
KUALA LUMPUR: The Auto Shanghai 2021 is bringing in new and exciting products for the auto industry with each passing day. We have already seen amazing vehicles and concepts from mass and luxurious automakers like the Geely Xingyue L SUV, BMW i4 Sport, BMW 7-Series Two-Tone edition, Ford Evos, Volkswagen Polo facelift, Maserati Levante Hybrid, Audi A7L sedan, and much more. Joining the vast list is now the all-new Nissan X-Trail that also becomes the means for the debut of the new 1.5L turbocharged petrol powertrain.
We’ll be discussing both the vehicle and the engine in detail here, starting with the new X-Trail. In terms of design, the SUV features the same styling elements that were seen in June 2020 launched USA-spec X-Trail.
All-new Nissan X-Trail key features -
- Self-opening rear door (up to 90 degrees)
- 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
- Largest-in-class 9-inch touchscreen display
- 10.8-inch head-up display
- Bose Premium Audio System
- Ambient lighting
Above all the 2021 X-Trail features the brand’s new Vehicle Motion Control system that predicts the driver’s next move by monitoring acceleration, brake, and steering inputs. The said system works jointly with the Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system via different drive modes to provide four-wheel individual control.
As for the SUVs under the hood configuration, it is powered by the automaker’s latest engine offering - the 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged mill that comes with a variable compression ratio technology (first seen in the USA-spec Infiniti QX50). The new mill’s compression ratio vary between 14:1 to 8:1 that helps it achieve the said targets via control systems, special
hardware, and actuators.
The revolutionary ‘VC-Turbo’ engine generates class-leading outputs; i.e., maximum power of 204 hp along with a peak torque of 300 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a CVT-type transmission.
When will the new Nissan X-Trail arrive?
The all-new Nissan X-Trail with the 1.5-litre VC-Turbo mill is scheduled to arrive by the second half of 2021 at all company-authorized dealerships.
