Seven-seat Tesla Model Y deliveries to be commenced from early December
KUALA LUMPUR: The idea of transforming the five-seater Tesla Model Y into a three-row vehicle set forth in March 2019, when the crossover made its original debut. Since then, there has been a lot of speculation about what a seven-seat Model Y will look like and when it will arrive.
In June this year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk spoke about it via his usual medium of choice, i.e., Twitter. He said that the deliveries of the seven-seater Model Y are supposed to start in early Q4 2020. That pegs the new trim to arrive by the end of this year.
Well, the Q4 is here, and also an update about the seven-seat Model Y. In a recent tweet, Musk said that the three-row Model Y will enter into production next month, and the initial deliveries will commence in early December, which is basically right on time.
The Tesla US website also shows the seven-seat Model Y on the options list with an addition of $3,000 to the price, but one can not select it, we assume it will be updated soon.
The speculations roaming around the positioning of two more seats comprise the possibility of rear-facing seats in the third row that could fit two children as earlier seen on the Model S. However, the option is now discontinued, but Musk has hinted at its returning with new seats enough to fit adults.
Regarding the technical specifications of the electric crossover’s new variant, the automaker has not yet made any statement. Have a look at the number of the available Model Y trims:
- The Long Range variant boasts a range of 316 miles and can accelerate 0 to 100 kmph in 4.8 seconds. It is priced at $49,990.
- Performance trim has a driving range of 291 miles, but it is faster with 0–100 kmph hitting time of 3.5 seconds. Tesla retails this at $59,990.
The 7-seater Model Y would be a good choice for larger families wanting to switch to zero-emissions transport.
