SDAC Ford teases the new Ranger pickup variant; debut set for May 30

KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Auto ConneXion, the sole distributor of Ford vehicles in Malaysia, is geared up to introduce a new special Ranger pickup to the local market. The company teased the upcoming pickup truck on its official website with a caption that reads, “It’s time to weather the Storm,” hinting at the arrival of the Ford Ranger Stormtrak.

    To get insights about the upcoming Ranger variant, we can refer to the Thai market, where it comes in two versions - Stormtrak 4x2 and Stormtrak 4x4. It slots between the Ranger Wildtrak and the Ranger Raptor in the pickup’s lineup. 

    In terms of design, the Ranger Stormtrak features a distinctive black grille incorporating auxiliary lights. The pickup boasts exclusive black body decals on the rear quarter panels and the lower section of doors, lending it a sportier and unique stance. It rides on distinctive 20-inch wheels wrapped in bigger 255/55/20 tyres.

    As for the unique interior appearance, the automaker has equipped the pickup with eye-catching red trim accents and the Stormtrak script embossed onto the seats. In terms of features, it is equipped with a 12-inch infotainment unit, a 12.4-inch instrument cluster, an electric parking brake, a dual-zone automatic air conditioning system, and an Active Park Assist system.

    Powering the Thai-spec Ranger Stormtrak is the same 2.0-litre bi-turbo 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine that can be found in the Wildtrak trim. The said engine is tuned to deliver a maximum power of 210 PS and a peak torque of 500 Nm. As mentioned above, it is offered in 4x2 and 4x4 drive systems mated to an e-shifter 10-speed automatic transmission.

    The Ford Ranger Stormtrak price in Thailand begins at THB 1.264 million (RM 162k) and goes all the way to THB 1.399 million (RM 179k).
