Say hello to the McLaren Artura - A high-performance hybrid supercar
KUALA LUMPUR: Marking the beginning of a new chapter for the luxury supercar automaker, the all-new McLaren Artura is out now. This is the brand's first PHEV, the first model to equip a newly developed 3.0-litre V6 powertrain, and also the debutante for McLaren’s new MCLA platform meant for electrified models.
The company revealed the new Artura Hybrid in a spectacular digital launch that streamed live from its global headquarters featuring McLaren’s new Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo.
The new McLaren supercar has a sleek design inside and out. On the exterior, it features a low-nose and high-tail stance, which is underlined by the brand’s signature dihedral doors. The pure supercar look is further enhanced by Arturia’s short wheelbase and low stance. The designers sculpted the vehicle shape in a way that optimizes the performance and manages airflow for aerodynamics and cooling.
Inside, the supercar has a revolutionized design with the cockpit centered more than ever around the driver. A digital gauge cluster is mounted to the steering column, which moves with the wheel. The steering has no unnecessary controls, however, rocker switches are placed nearby for handling numerous powertrain modes. Other interior highlights are:
- Eight-inch high-resolution screen for media, navigation, and climate control adjustments
- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity along with over-the-air updates
- 10-way power-adjustable sports seats with heating
- A Pirelli Noise Canceling System
- Alcantara, Nappa leather, and aluminum trims
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Five-speaker sound system
- Front/rear parking sensors
Driver aids available in the new McLaren Artura are adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and road sign recognition.
As mentioned above, the supercar has a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine under its bonnet, which is coupled with an axial flux E-motor to produce a combined system output of 671 horsepower and a peak torque of 730 Nm. Broken down, the V6 churns out 577 hp and 584 Nm on its own, while the E-motor produces up to 225 Nm, along with 94 hp.
According to McLaren, this setup gives the rear-wheel-drive Artura the "sharpest-ever throttle response" and enables it to hit the 0-100 kmph mark in just three seconds, 0-200 kmph in 8.3 seconds, and 0-300 kmph in 21.5 seconds. The electronically-limited top speed of the supercar is rated at 330 mph. With its 7.4 kWh battery pack, the Artura can go 30 km on electric power alone.
The new Artura is now available to order in the US with a starting price of $225,000 (RM 908,936).
