KUALA LUMPUR: BYD Malaysia began the teaser campaigning of its upcoming EV, the Seal, almost a month ago and started accepting pre-bookings a few days later. The fully electric Chinese sedan is now set to hit the local roads. As the title reads, the BYD Seal launch in Malaysia is scheduled for February 23, 2024.

The BYD Seal will be offered in three variants in Malaysia viz. Dynamic, Premium, and Performance, offering a driving range between 460 km and 570 km on a single charge.The official launch ceremony will be held at The Exchange TRX, Outdoor at the Raintree Plaza (Balenciaga Entrance), where the EV will be on display till February 25. The upcoming BYD Seal underpins the brand’s e-platform 3.0 and measures 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,460 mm in height. The wheelbase and boot space are measured at 2,920 mm and 400 litres. A front storage compartment of 53 litres is also available.
The EV will be offered in three variants in Malaysia viz. Dynamic, Premium, and Performance. The Dynamic will come equipped with a single rear-wheel drive electric motor producing 204 PS of maximum power and 310 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 61.4 kWh LFP Blade battery offering a range of up to 460 km.
The Premium variant, on the contrary, comes powered by a more potent rear-mounted motor good for making 313 PS/360 Nm. Also, it is fed by a larger 82.5 kWh LFP battery with 570 km of range. On the top of the variant ladder sits the Performance, which runs on an all-wheel-drive dual-motor setup producing 530 PS and 670 Nm. It is hooked to an 82.5 kWh battery, which provides a range of up to 520 km on a single charge.
The BYD Seal showcases an award-winning design inspired by the ocean, featuring a sporty front fascia with an X-shaped layout and a sleek silhouette reminiscent of a coupe. Notable design elements include dual waistlines, a low-profile hood, and an upturned ducktail. Inside, the Ocean Aesthetics philosophy is evident in details such as the "Surging Wave" dashboard, water drop-shaped inner fastenings, and a crystal gear shift lever.
In terms of features, the upcoming BYD EV is anticipated to come equipped with various advanced bits, including a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment system, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a head-up display, dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a comprehensive array of cutting-edge safety technologies.
