Sales Report: Perodua Malaysia performance in July 2022

KUALA LUMPUR: Perodua Malaysia recently released its July 2022 sales performance figures, and the report reveals a drop of 13.8% compared to the last month. Well, the reasons are obvious; a shortage of labour as well as residual semiconductor supply availability.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many cars did Perodua sell in July 2022?

Perodua sold a total of 18,346 units in July 2022 with a drop of 13.8% compared to the last month.
  • How many cars did Perodua sell between January and July 2022?

Perodua delivered a total of 145,689 cars between January and July this year with a 48.7% jump over the same period last year.
  • Drilling down the numbers, in the month of July, Perodua sold a total of 18,346 units in comparison to 21,164 units registered in June this year.

To overcome the labour shortage issue, the company is working closely with the government and hopes that it will be resolved by early August, says Perodua's president and CEO Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad. The production is also expected to resume at full capacity beginning this month.

“On the semiconductor issue, we have secured enough chip supply for us to produce and register more than 247,800 units this year. However, we are still working on sustaining production growth, so this means that we cannot announce our new targets yet,” he stated.

On a positive note, the automaker grabbed a total of 24,265 orders last month, which indicates a strong demand for its vehicles, despite the reinstatement of the sales tax reinstatement on July 1, 2022.

This figure includes 9000 bookings for the recently-launched Alza, bringing its total reservation tally to 39,000. To fulfil these record-breaking booking numbers, Perodua has set a target of delivering 3,000 Alzas every month.

Further, the YTD sales numbers are truly impressive with 145,689 cars delivered between January and July this year compared to 97,945 units the company managed to sell during the same period last year. It shows a bump of 48.7%.

While commenting on the reasons for this success, Dato’ Sri Zainal said, “The first is due to the strong demand for our vehicles, especially between January and June this year as customers wanted to take advantage of the government’s sales tax exemption initiative. The second reason why the 2022 year-to-date numbers are stronger is due to the nationwide Covid-19 pandemic lockdown that happened between June and mid-August last year.”
