RHB Banking Group champions green mobility with new EVlution charging stations in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: During its first-ever RHB Green Week from April 16-18, 2024, RHB Banking Group unveiled its new EVlution Charging Stations at the RHB Centre in Kuala Lumpur. This launch marks a significant step towards sustainable transportation in Malaysia.

Event Highlights Sustainable Goals

The opening ceremony of the EVlution Charging Stations, led by the Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke Siew Fook, was a key feature of RHB Green Week. This effort is part of EVlution's plan to install 2,000 EV charging stations across the country by 2025, facilitating easier access to electric vehicle charging.

Minister Loke expressed the government's endorsement of initiatives that bolster the development of a green vehicle ecosystem, aligning with Malaysia’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2030. He emphasized the strategic importance of such advancements in achieving national transportation and environmental goals.

RHB's Commitment to Eco-Friendly Practices

Mohd Rashid Mohamad, CEO of RHB Banking Group, emphasized the group’s commitment to environmental sustainability. He mentioned that initiatives like the EVlution Charging Stations align with the National Transport Policy, aiming to have 1.5 million EVs on Malaysian roads by 2040.

Technological Innovations for EV Charging

Dr. Jeffrey Ong, CEO of EVlution, highlighted their mission to revolutionize Malaysia’s automotive scene with reliable and sustainable charging solutions. A notable innovation is their new payment system, developed in partnership with RHB and Mastercard, which simplifies transactions for EV charging.

A unique feature introduced by EVlution is Malaysia’s first Charge Point Operator (CPO) combined payment system, which accepts payments via the EVlution mobile app or a physical card, facilitated through partnerships with RHB and Mastercard.

Mastercard Enhances the Charging Experience

Mastercard’s Country Manager for Malaysia and Brunei, Beena Pothen, discussed how their collaboration helps streamline the charging process, making it more user-friendly and helping push Malaysia towards a cashless society.

"Leveraging Mastercard’s global network, expertise, and advanced technology, Mastercard enables frictionless integration of interoperable payment solutions, supporting a smart and sustainable charging infrastructure. This partnership enhances consumer experiences by providing reliable, convenient charging options with seamless and secure payment capabilities. Empowering Malaysians to go cashless for EV charging and other purchases, we accelerate both the nation's cashless movement and overall EV adoption," Pothen explained.

Looking Ahead

RHB’s broader strategy includes collaborations with key automotive players like Volvo Car Malaysia and Tesla Malaysia, and other EV charging providers, offering financing up to RM500,000 for green vehicles at competitive rates. Their efforts have already seen substantial uptake, with financing provided for over 2,000 green vehicles, surpassing initial targets and reinforcing RHB's dedication to environmental sustainability.
