Renault to launch Zoe RS by 2022
KUALA LUMPUR: It seems Renault is getting ready to launch a performance version of Zoe, named Zoe RS within three years, i.e., by 2022. Just about four months ago, the facelifted version of the car was revealed. 2019 Renault Zoe comes with several changes, including front look, inside, and also the engine. Now, the carmaker is planning to replace Clio RS with a potent version of Zoe.
Back in 2017, the Zoe e-Sport concept was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. The concept car was created as a part of Renault’s plan for electric car production, and it was also produced to celebrate Renault’s success in Formula E under the banner of Renault e.dams. However, the model is yet to hit the assembly line, and as for now, there is no info whether Zoe RS will retain some cues from Zoe e-Sport or not.
Ali Kassai, Renault’s planning boss, stated, “Society is changing so fast. We need to find a way to make passion of performance cars socially acceptable. I believe Renault is best placed to find that way because of our history as a leader in EVs and one of the historic players in performance cars.” He also added, “We have been thinking about this for a long time. It will happen the day when the technology road blocks are removed. This means high performance but also sustainability of performance and making economic sense.”
Nonetheless, Kassai has not mentioned any technical specifications and such thing, but we can hope the carmaker will choose the powertrain option from Zoe e-Sport concept. To mention, Renault e-Sport concept is equipped by two electric motors, mounted on each axle. Combinedly they can push out a maximum power of 462 hp and a peak torque of 640 Nm. The car also comes with a 450-kg battery. It can achieve the sprint from 0-100 kmph in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 209 kmph.
