Renault Megane E-Tech EV gets LG’s infotainment system

KUALA LUMPUR: The Renault Megane E-Tech is undoubtedly a stunning looking car inside-out. What however catches everyone’s attention is the massive L-shaped infotainment system. And it is the latter we’ll be talking about in this article in depth.

Called the In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) system, this very unit is created by LG in partnership with Renault and as promised creates a highly advanced and digital environment.

Key highlights of the Renault Megane E-Tech EV IVI system -

• The new Renault OpenR infotainment system measures 12.0-inch and the instrument cluster stretches to 12.3-inch

• Both the infotainment system and the instrument panel are powered by Google Android Automotive software
• Developed by LG utilising Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) this first of its kind software works on a set of processes and principles that assist big organisations to imply agile methodologies in order to develop and deliver high-quality services and high-quality products

• The LG’s Android-based IVI system is certified by Google Automotive Services (GAS) and is the first system based on Android 10
• Several Google applications like Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play are easily accessible via the 12-inch display

Apart from the IVI system, LG is doing great work in the field of innovative future mobility. Also, its Vehicle Component Solutions has earned a great reputation as one of the world’s top suppliers of IVI systems and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.

Furthermore, with the acquisition of ZKW Group, LG has now ventured into the world of advanced lighting technology. Not to forget its joint venture with Magna International to develop LG Magna e-Powertrain.

In addition to the IVI system, LG and Renault have partnered together to develop a new lithium-ion NMC battery chemistry tech. The newly developed battery pack is 40 percent compact but benefits from a new liquid cooling system with diecast aluminium tubes.

Coming back to Renault’s latest EV, its deliveries will begin in Europe from the second quarter of 2022.
