Renault Captur facelift revealed in Russia

KUALA LUMPUR: Renault Captur has received a mid-life update and first images of the facelifted version have been released in Russia. The final production version is expected to be showcased in its entirety in June 2020. Known as the Kaptur in Russia, the facelifted version gets a redesigned front grille and dual-tone alloy wheels on the outside.

Besides the mild and subtle cosmetic tweaks on the outside, the changes underneath are far more significant. Renault claims that the facelifted Captur is modified in line with the advanced B0+ platform that made its debut on the Arkana SUV-coupe.

Apart from the redesigned front grille, the rest of the front fascia remains unchanged. Dual-tone alloy wheel design also gives a sportier and masculine look to the car. Getting to the inside of the car you will see a completely revamped cabin. Ambient lighting strips on the dashboard completely overhaul the interior beauty of the car. Inside the cabin, Renault is offering color-coded accents that tune with the shade on the exterior of the car. Color-coding is sported on places like the adjustable headrests, the dashboard as well as the front footwell. More to that, Renault also wishes to offer an option of complete personalization to its customers.

At the heart of the car lies a new 1.3-litre TCe turbocharged petrol engine, that is developed in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz. The same engine was also incorporated in Duster which was showcased in the Auto Expo held last month. This engine is powerful enough to ignite 156 hp of maximum power, along with 250 Nm of peak torque. However, Renault will continue to offer the outgoing Captur with its 1.5-litre H4K petrol engine that is capable to spark 106 PS of max power, and 142 Nm torque. The new 1.5-litre petrol engine will be reserved for entry-level variants.

As per confirmed sources, Renault is all set to discontinue its BS4- 1.5-litre diesel engine, soon after the BS6 emissions norms will be standardized. New turbo-petrol powertrain could also be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Along with this, an optional CVT gearbox will also be provided.

The facelifted Renault Captur is scheduled for launch in September 2020. With cleaner engine and styling tweaks, the new Renault Captur will prove to be a strong competitor to Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Nissan Kicks. However, no pricing details have been revealed yet, but with the list of features and strong powertrain incorporated in Captur, we expect it to be no less expensive.
