Proton X90 launched in Malaysia, here’s all you need to know
The highly-anticipated third X-series Proton model, the X90, was finally launched in Malaysia yesterday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The latest Proton model is a big brother to the X50 and X70 SUVs and it marks the brand’s entry into the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) market.

Proton X90 Exterior
The three-row X90 features a stunning exterior design with a bold silhouette and modern elements. While it is based on the Geely Haoyue/Okavango, Proton’s signature touches like an infinite weave grille, Proton logo, and black fog lamp surrounds offer it a distinctive appearance. The SUV comes kitted with full LED headlamps. LED daytime running lights, LED front fog lamps, front sequential turn signals, and 18-inch alloy wheels as standard.
With the higher-spec trims, we also get auto functionality on the headlamps, auto rain-sensing wipers, and power tailgate. The bigger 19-inch alloy wheels are available for the Premium and Flagship trims while the latter exclusively get the Panoramic sunroof.

Inside the cabin, the SUV offers three spacious rows of seating with two captain chairs in the middle row exclusively available on the top-spec Flagship version. The rest of the trims come with a bench-like second row.

Proton X90 Engine specifications
All the variants of the Proton X90 are powered by the same 48V mild hybrid system, which comprises a 1.5-litre three-cylinder TGDI engine and a Belt Starter Generator (BSG). The former delivers a maximum power of 177 hp and a peak torque of 255 Nm while the latter is good for making 13 hp and 45 Nm. The system's total output is rated at 190 hp and 300 Nm of torque.
According to the automaker, the innovative 48V Electric Motor Synergy (EMS) System delivers additional power and torque for improved performance, enhances fuel efficiency and reduces emissions. It has six main components: a 48V BSG motor, DC Converter, 48V Lithium-Ion Battery, Battery Management System, Recuperation Braking System, and Hybrid Module Control System.
As for the transmission, the SUV gets a 7-speed dual-clutch system that sends power to the front wheels. Eco, Comfort, and Sport are three driving modes to choose from.
