Proton Recalls Three Vehicles Over the Cooler Hoses Issue
Kuala Lumpur: The second largest national carmaker in Malaysia, Proton Holdings Bhd has recently announced Proton's major car recall of 94,577 units of its three widely popular models namely – Proton Preve, Proton Exora and Proton Suprima S. The company has confirmed that the recall is being made because of a faulty CFE oil cooler hose. It has been reported that after completing a life cycle of around 40,000 km the hose is known to burst in the list of affected vehicles.
The national carmaker has admitted its mistakes by confirming the problem in various models regarding the CFE oil cooler hoses due to the degradation of internal hose/tube material.
As a part of this major recall, Proton will call around 94,577 units and fix the issue for free. However, it will be applicable to only those vehicles which are under warranty and has a nice record of servicing their vehicle as per the recommended intervals.
"We will call the owners and the priority will be given to the cars with mileage of 40,000 km and above. We hope to finish this in the next six months." Proton CEO, Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah, reported to Bernama at the preview of their upcoming sedan 2016 Proton Perdana.
The recall announcement came as a bad news in hand with the official specs revelation of its much anticipated 2016 Proton Perdana sedan. Proton also recently revived its logo and looks like the 2016 Perdana will be the first in line to feature it. The car is now available for general public and the bookings for the same are open as well. The Proton Perdana 2016 is one of the most sought after cars in Malaysia as now it will be available for the common Malaysian population, which was earlier limited to exclusive sale to Malaysian civil servants and government officials only.
The start of 2016 so far has been a roller coaster ride for the national carmaker. Proton is trying its best to improve its image in Malaysia due to the rising negative consumer sentiments towards the brand. According to the Edge markets, Proton sales in Malaysia have dropped to 102,200 units with a market share of Proton to only 15.3%, from a high of 60%.
