Proton Pick-up Concept Displayed Again in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur: After a preview at Alami Proton last month, the Proton Pickup Concept is again spotted on public display. The pick-up truck was placed in an inclined position on top of a steel platform surrounded by plants. When asked why the automaker decided to make a pick-up concept, Proton's Head of Design Azlan Othman said, “it’s very simple. Looking at how successful the Jumbuck (the Arena in Australia) was, there’s no reason for us not to look at segments where we were once profitable.”

Towards the front fascia, it gets a tubular steel sports bar with thin strips of LEDs on both sides and company's insignia embossed in between. One can also notice a gaping grille with honeycomb-like elements. At the back, it has got a high-ish and short truck bed similar to the Ssangyong Actyon Sports. Its brake lights are housed in thick grey mouldings that wrap around the rear tailgate. Further, it is anchored with huge black wheels with massive rock crawler tyres along with metallic red paint job and grey body cladding. Inside, the seats have got a red trim along with a honeycomb stitch pattern across them. Further, one can also notice an Exora-derived dashboard.

Although most of the pickups are built on a ladder frame chassis, it would be based on monocoque trucks just like the Exora. Although it is not made clear whether it would reach the production stage or not, but one can expect a rugged pickup from Proton.
