Proton announced bigger discounts for flood-affected customers

KUALA LUMPUR: Last week, Proton announced a flood relief programme for its customers impacted by the recent flash floods. Earlier, the national automaker was offering a 20% discount on selected parts and a 20% discount on labour charges. But, now it decided to increase the percentages of the rebates to further ease the financial burden of its customers. 

The new flood-relief rebates offered by Proton include a 50% discount on selected replacement parts for all the models except the X50 and X70. However, the owners of the X50 and X70 can get a 25% discount for the same. On labour chargers, an increased discount of 25% is applicable on all models.

Earlier, the company was offering up to RM 200 off on towing charges and RM 100 off on cleaning charges (exterior and engine bay), but now these services will be provided free of cost.

In addition, the customers whose vehicles are insured under the Proton Insurance Programme (PIP) can also claim RM 1,000 flood relief benefits.

“Proton is deeply sympathetic to the plight of those affected by the recent floods, as many of them consist of B40 households. To date, our service centres have received approximately 600 cars and we estimate there to be many more that will arrive in the coming days and weeks. Therefore, we have enhanced our assistance package in the hope that it will provide some financial relief to these families,” said Proton Edar CEO Roslan Abdullah.

Besides offering the flood assistance package, Proton is also in communication with banks to allow its customers to pay repair costs via installment using their credit cards. “This will further assist their cash flow as they will neither be charged interest fees nor have to come up with a lump sum payment,” added Roslan.
