According to the sources, these surveys were held at five different locations in Klang Valley which are accounted as the most populous areas with the highest amount of vehicles. Also, it was noted that around 50 per cent of the respondents were between 17 to 25 years old, and 71 per cent were having a driving experience of less than ten years.
The data was surmised in a pie chart form which shows only two per cent chose style and design as a deciding factor while 7 percent chose Performace and 5 percent were in favor of reliability. Apart from these factors, the cost of maintenance and service of the car also grabbed only two-per cent share in the century.
Asean NCAP is the most popular ratings in Malaysia as per the survey. It showed a positive growth of awareness to Asean NCAP has jumped from 15.5 per cent last year to 32 per cent. Asean Automotive Safety Forum believes that these results are mainly because of the road tour initiative earlier held by the organisation. And it is also planning to conduct a bi-annual road tour with the help of car manufacturers to raise more and more awareness among the potential car buyer's.
We believe that such surveys should be conducted on a regular basis nation wide with more focus to be placed on questions like what are the factors that will make them decide on their next car purchase. Also, the government agencies should come forward over these surveys and help the Malaysians to consider the cost of maintenance and fuel consumption in their decision-making process.
